Buying a Puppy from Larkwood
*Please do not call us before filling out a questionnaire and reviewing our sales contract.

*Each buyer is carefully screened as we want our puppies to end up in a loving forever home.
*Puppies are not sold for breeding. All puppies are sold on spay/neuter contracts.
*Puppies are sold with a 30 month Health Guarantee against inherited defects.
*Puppies come with a 72 hour general health guarantee.
*Once puppies arrive, we require a $500 non-refundable deposit to save a spot on our list for a puppy.
*Puppy prices start at $1800.
*If you are set on a certain color or gender, I respect that. Please understand though, it will be harder to get a puppy if you're not flexible.
*Please do not ask for puppies with blue eyes. We rarely produce these, and you don't always know at 8 weeks if they will stay blue.

How We Raise Our Puppies
General:
*Our girls live indoors with us. When puppies arrive, the mother and pups have their own quiet space for the first couple of weeks.
*We handle our puppies daily. We use the Early Neurological Stimulation & Early Scent Introduction to help socialize them early on.
*We have CD's we play for noise desensitization to train the puppies for sounds they will hear outside of the house.
*We have many different toys and puppy-safe obstacles for them to explore and play on, and we get them outside as much as possible.
*We begin short term crate training at 7 weeks.
*We have the litter evaluated by another breeder at 7-8 weeks of age.
*We provide updates about the puppies to those who are on our waiting list with a paid deposit. We also post weekly individual puppy pictures on our website & on our Facebook page. Our Facebook page will also have candid photos and videos for buyers and Aussie lovers to watch the puppies grow and explore.
**Upon completion of the litter evaluation (after 7 weeks), we can start making final placement decisions**

Health:
*Tails and dewclaws are removed by a vet at 2-4 days of age.
*Puppies will have their eyes examined by a registered ophthalmologist at 7-8 weeks of age.
*A health check at our regular veterinarian will be completed just before the pups are ready to leave.
*Puppies are microchipped before leaving (free lifetime registration).
*All puppies will be dewormed prior to going home (and as needed the first seven weeks).
*Our puppies will NOT be vaccinated when they leave (if before 10 wks - see below).
*We follow Dr. Jean Dodd's protocol on vaccinations. We currently give the first puppy shot (Distemper + Parvovirus) at 9-10 weeks of age, followed by a second at 13-14 weeks and the final at 17-18 weeks. A booster vaccination of distemper/parvo between 18 and 24 months. Titer's can be used going forward if you have any concerns. Rabies vaccination at 5-6 months. A booster good for 3 yrs is given one year after the first vaccination. Repeat every 3 years.

Raising our pups!
At Birth - A safe, clean, quiet place with Mom. Sometimes Mom even needs a break.
Feeding - We start kibble at around 5 weeks of age. They eat inside, outside, and then we wean them to individual dishes.
Breeding Information
We breed infrequently, and with careful thought and consideration given to each cross we plan.
Sometimes we might have a litter two years in a row. Other times we won't have a litter for 2-4 years.
Our ultimate goal with each breeding is to improve the generation before, to better the breed.
We realize the results of each breeding will eventually end up as someones beloved pet,
whether that pup ever sees a conformation or performance ring or not.

Our Goals:
Health - All of our adults have their hips and elbows OFA'd before being bred. We look for studs that have hips rated as Good or Excellent, and Elbows Normal. Eyes are cleared with CERF within a year of the breeding. All breeding animals are DNA'd with ASCA, and as required, with AKC. At minimum, testing for HSF4 (hereditary cataracts) and MDR1 (drug sensitivity) is completed, and many times more test results are available. We are trying to produce pups that will live out a long, healthy life for their new family. These litters are planned months and years in advance, so there has been a lot of research into the pairing before the breeding takes place.
Temperament - All of our Aussies have great temperaments, and that starts at birth! We have been fortunate to acquire some dogs with outstanding temperaments that were raised in a loving home and got off to a great start, and we try to match that with our own litters. Dogs are so much more rewarding as a part of the family if they have a good temperament. Our dogs love to travel with us. They always seem happy and enjoy life, and that's what we want for each puppy we send off to their new homes.
Conformation - While each litter is bred with the hopes that we end up with conformation champions, we realize not every pup is going to end up in a show home. Regardless of whether the pups end up in show homes, performance, working, or pet homes, correct conformation is key.
Versatility - What lead me to this wonderful breed! Aussies can and should be able to do it all! While it's hard to find time to get involved with everything the Aussies enjoy, they are a breed that are multi-talented and should be able to do everything. Aussies should have a stock instinct, be intelligent, loyal, and easy to live with. That's why we love this breed!
